Biking, be it on the track or on snow, is full of adventure and offers a thrill to the rider. Resembling a Moto GP racing bike, British Designer Evangelos Gicas has designed a snow bike dubbed “Snowmobile” that requires the rider to mold his or her posture according to the shape of the vehicle, thus decreasing aerodynamic drag in a great way. Like a MotoGP racing bike, riders need to lean toward the direction they wish turn the snowmobile. Hence body posture or balance plays an important role in controlling the snowmobile.

Snowmobiling has come about through a steady need to travel to snow bound locations, however it has recently made a transition from need to recreation. Snowmobiling has become increasingly popular in alpine populations among younger generations. They are increasingly being built for speed and technical ability as there is now a major industry surrounding snowmobiling racing. Beyond racing, snowmobiling allows for a great opportunity to explore previously inaccessible areas with relatively little effort. Exploring backcountry locations can be incredibly rewarding and peaceful. Snowmobiling also allows for discovering great backcountry ski and snowboard locations. Because it provides access to isolated areas, finding fresh powder, hiking or ice climbing locations, are now much easier to reach and explore.

Snowmobiling is not without its dangers. Exploring on a snowmobile is usually relatively isolated so if something goes wrong, the access for assistance is limited. Communication is often nonexistent or very sparse. Because of these factors it is important to always have a companion while snowmobiling. Dangers include falling from the snowmobile, crashing, falling through sink holes in the snow, or even breaking through ice into ice cold water and drowning. These risks may seem scary but the accident ration for snowmobiling is relatively low when compared to other types of transportation. Always wearing protective gear and knowing the signs of week ice or sinkholes can help you identify these risks and keeping control of your snowmobile by knowing its capabilities will help to provide a safer snowmobiling adventure.

Snowmobiles are great fun for anyone looking to have fun with speed and snow. Some snowmobiles have been modified and equipped to take on this terrain in a different way

The participants of these races don’t have it easy. They courses they are given are short and difficult to navigate. They might have to drive over shoulder high snow, snow covered hills, soft snow banks and sometimes ice covered river sides. To be able to appreciate snowmobile racing, snowmobiles have to have enough maneuverability and engine power.

Your local snowmobile association should have all information about any races in your area and your surrounding area. They also have the information you need in case you want to take up racing. You can also access this information from the internet.

The best in snowmobile racing is found with the Snowcross events. These events are divided into two sections, the National and Regional events. At the regional level, if you are a member of a racing group recognized by the official Snowcross Association, you are allowed to take part in the races. These are again categorized from beginner to expert.

These competitions give snowmobile lovers the chance to practice their racing and how to maneuver their snowmobiles. They also learn how to perform stunts for example mid air steering skills. The professional snowmobile racers get to compete on the international level, and here they show off their mastery of skills, their snowmobiles, the snow and gravity!
